The One Thing I Refuse To Give Up

Yo, I’ve given up a lot of things over the last 6 months. In fact I’ve given up almost all of my things.

95% of my clothes

100% of my furniture

My car

My surfboard

My life as I know it.

But there is one teeny tiny thing that I absolutely refuse to give up…

My phone number.

Last night I went to a digital nomad meet up and met some pretty dope people from around the planet. I definitely learned a lot and it was great to be around some people who understand what I’m doing instead of hearing the common “wow, you’re so brave I wish I could do that.”

It felt good to have this whole adventure feel a bit normal. Or to have found some people as crazy as I am, I guess.

But I digress… my phone number.

I mentioned that I still have my US plan and that I’ve kept my $130 per month Verizon plan and I’m paying $10/day for any day I choose to use my phone on more than just WiFi.

Their jaws dropped and I was schooled on all the nomad phone things.

It turns out that most people spend less than $20/ month on their phones.

It’s sorry what?

They simply get a new SIM card whenever they land somewhere new.

This means giving up my US phone number.

As easy as it was to give away all my nice workout clothes and sell my comfy king sized bed, I am 100% not at all ready to give up my number.

Thankfully I’ve been informed that there is this magical thing called google fi which will give me calling and WiFi for $20-60/month in over 200 countries.

I’m curious why more people in the US don’t use google fi and simply stick to their regular US carriers.

It seems like a smokin deal.

Maybe you should check into to too.
