Responsibility VS Blame

Look shitty things happen in life. You didn’t make them happen. You had no control over their happening to you. Just because you are not at fault for what’s happened, doesn’t me you are not responsible for what happens next.

Hal Elrond says In his book Miracle Morning that “While blame determines who is at fault for something, responsibility determines who is committed to improving things.”

So we have two options.

We can sit around all day everyday for the rest of our lives flying the flag of what happened to us. We can Blame our past for how our present is and how our future is destined to be.

OR

We can acknowledge what happened and recognize that while it was not our fault, it IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY to make things better.

Learning the concept of personal responsibility for my life why one of THE MOST life changing philosophies I ever adopted. Taking 100% responsibility for who I wanted to be and how I wanted to live, regardless of what happens to me outside of my control, was the starting point for creating the life of my dreams.

In 2009, as an exhausted substitute teacher who couldn’t get an actual teaching job because the Los Angeles School District laid off 30,000 teaches the same exact month that I got my teaching credential in the midst of economic collapse, I had a lot of fingers I was pointing at a lot of people. I had so many reasons for why my life was now fucked. $60k in debt with zero sustainable job prospects. I was pissed.

Then I met a couple who went on to be my mentors for the next 10 years. The very first book they put on my book list was Success Principals by Jack Canfield.

Through that book I leaned that while I wasn’t to blame for the life I had, I was responsible for changing it.

And I did that. One fucking day at a time. Some good days, some bad days. Some successful days, some learning days.

But the freedom that comes from OWNING that we can change our lives for the better has been the greatest gift I have ever received.

Many people blame their health on their significant other (or lack of one), their friends, their job, their parents, etc.but the fact is, whatever your situation, who ever is to BLAME, we are each RESPONSIBLE for making it better. For improving it from here on out. For figuring it out.

When someone joins Krash Course in Transformation, my 12 weeks life changing, mind altering fitness and life coaching program, the very first thing we tell them in orientation is:

NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU.

We literally ask them to write down and post wherever they need to post it “I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN RESULTS.”

A good coach is not someone who babysits you’re. It is not someone who creates dependency.

The role of a good coach and a true coaching program is to help people build themselves up into independent human beings who have the tools to take responsibility for their lives and actionably make real changes through day to day execution.

If you’re looking for someone to FIX YOU or CARRY YOU. If you’re still BLAMING YOUR PAST or your circumstances. If you’re looking for someone to SAVE YOU or do it for you. You will never, ever, ever create the change you are seeking.

While where you are may be someone else’s fault, where you are going….that is your responsibility.
